TAZEWELL COUNTY SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN

 

Over the last few decades, the amount of municipal solid waste (garbage) sent to landfills has changed significantly. Solid waste generation per person per day peaked in 2000. In 2014, each person created 4.4 pounds of garbage per day, which is one of the lowest rates since before 1990.

 

Tazewell County created a 20-year solid waste plan in 1991 to comply with federal and state laws and regulations.  Every five years, this plan must be updated.  Tazewell County's planning process is structured to provide opportunities for stakeholder engagement by facilitating citizen and local governmental input for the process of solid waste management.
