What is the Tri-County Green Matters Program?

The Tri-County Green Matters Program is a voluntary program that provides recognition to area businesses, institution, local governments and others that are leaders in environmental stewardship. The goal of the program is to encourage greater environmental performance in such areas as waste reduction, energy efficiency and resource use.

Who should participate?

Any facility, whether subject to regulations or not, that is willing to do more to protect the environment and be a role model is encouraged to apply for this program. This includes businesses in the commercial, manufacturing and service sectors*. It also includes government and non-profit institutions, such as municipalities, sanitary districts, state agencies, schools and hospitals. There is no charge for participating in the program. If you have made the Tri-County area cleaner and greener, you deserve to be a Green Matters member.

*Such as print shops, dry cleaners, vehicle repair or refinishing shops, automobile dealers, restaurants, hotels, office parks, photofinishers, metal-plating facilities, machine shops, fabricated metals facilities and food processors.

What are the steps to Green Matters Membership?

The program is a three level recognition program. The more proactive facilities are, the more recognition they receive. Facilities will be recognized as a Bronze Level Partner when they commit to developing an environmental improvement program. Facilities that have established an environmental improvement program and are making progress in reducing waste and using resources efficiently will be recognized as either Silver or Gold Level Partners.

Benefits of being a Green Matters Member

By participating in the Green Matters program, you can:

  • Profit from reduced waste disposal costs, increased efficiency and enhanced image with the public and your employees.
  • Get local recognition for your environmental efforts. All participants will receive a certificate of commendation and local recognition in a green business directory and website. Silver and Gold Level Partners will receive a window emblem to display their environmental status for promotional purposes. Gold Level Partners will receive additional publicity through press releases and success story articles.
  • Receive free technical assistance. Participants will be eligible to receive on-site assistance and participate in workshops on a variety of environmental topics.
